Sofia Silveira
Sofia Silveira holds a BSc in Social Sciences from the Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política (FESPSP) in her native São Paulo, Brazil. Wishing to craft a career in the intersection of cultural studies, communications, and social service, she moved to the United States to pursue a Masters in Media Studies from The New School. In that time, she was a research assistant at m2lab, researching experimental multimedia projects that contemplated the multifaceted experience of immigration and its interactions with class, race, gender and power.
After graduation she taught ESL and history, joining the Scalabrini International Migration Network in 2024. She now dedicates her time to connecting governments, funding entities and private donors with emergency relief workers on the ground, helping migrants, displaced people and refugees.
She is also a student at Harvard University pursuing her Credential in Public Leadership at the Kennedy School. When she is not at work, she does photography and serves her New Jersey community as board member at The Sanctuary NJ and host of Boonton Coffee Co’s literary open mic.
