Belonging

Video, 4 min 54 sec
Two Venezuelan citizens who left their country for good discuss issues of memory, belonging, and mobility on a Skype conversation. The video piece uses diverse formats to convey a collapse of temporalities: archival footage shot with VHS tapes, 16mm, and digital cameras bring together senses of the past and present. Such temporalities are intertwined throughout the visual essay in different cuts, moving back and forth from aesthetic representations of something that already occurred, and a present that is permeated with that past.
