My Father

In my audiovisual project, the story of my grandfather in exile is told by my father, Luis Felipe, and my uncle, Andrés Eloy. They were both very young when they arrived in Mexico, and they have described their childhood spent between Mexico City and the city of Cuernavaca as "golden years" ––hence the title "The Golden Exile." Their recollections of their time in Mexico are, of course, constructed from their own, early memories just as much as from stories they heard as they grew older, which is why they have contrasting or incomplete versions of certain events. However, only the testimony of children exiles can help us imagine this episode of Venezuelan political history today, as it was not amply documented by the older exiles.
